We are distressed daily at the brazen human rights violations happening in the light of day, to our friends and neighbors, in the cities we call home. We know that America owes so much of the exuberance of our nation’s culture, community, economy, and tradition to the immigrant populations in our society. Nothing can separate us from the humanity we share with the vulnerable, the marginalized, and the “other.” We are all human beings, deserving of respect, dignity, and due process.
We are deeply inspired by all those across the country who are standing up to protect not only the rights and lives of these valued members of our communities, but the fundamental pillars of our democracy as well — freedom of speech, due process, rule of law, justice, and moral equality.
We remain unflinching in our commitment to taking care of each other and the planet; we will continue to fund efforts that prioritize the health, safety, and self-determination of all people, especially those currently in the crosshairs of discrimination.
Together with our many partners in California and beyond, we stand stronger than ever in our pursuit of environmental justice, human rights, and maintaining the structural integrity of democracy. As history has shown time and time again, one cannot exist without the others.
